Lightweight Hair Care

My hair is feeling thirsty lately... but, not that thirsty. My hair can get oily at times, so I could use a good clarifying shampoo for sure to relieve some of the heaviness or oiliness. But, I still need a moisturizing conditioner. It’s kinda like oily to combination skin, but for my hair. Either way, it’s best practice to keep your hair and skin as moisturized as possible, otherwise it’ll cause and imbalance, which in turn produces more sebum. Letting your hair “dry out” to reduce oiliness does not work!

I love, love, love Drybar products, but not all of them. I think the brand’s name goes a long way, but some of their products are very overrated. I actually love their hot tools and Bumble blow dryer, but I’m always underwhelmed by their hair care products, especially basic shampoos and conditioners. I usually stick to oils, sprays, and dry shampoos, if I’m shopping for Drybar products. The rest can be left on the shelf. That’s just my honest opinion.

In any case, here’s what I’m washing and conditioning my hair with these days. Drybar’s On the Rocks clarifying shampoo and lightweight replenishing conditioner are the perfect duo for what I call “combination hair.” The clarifying shampoo will work to rid your hair of any impurities and excess oils, while the conditioner will help restore natural oils to moisturize your hair without leaving your locks too heavy. So these are my top picks of Drybar shampoos and conditioners, after trying quite a few both in the salon and at home.

I also recommend following up with the Mai Tai Spritzer, before you blowout and style your hair. It’s moisturizing, smells great, and protects your hair against heat damage. I already picked up the scent of coconut and vanilla, but after reading the product description on Drybar’s website, apparently there’s also a hint of amber. This sea salt spray is great for creating a tousled wavy look because it’s basically a texturizing spray that creates separate between strands of hair, giving it some a fuller look.

And when your midweek hair starts setting in and your blowout isn’t as fresh as Monday morning, spray in some Detox Dry Shampoo. This Drybar product was actually awarded by Allure for Best of Beauty in 2018. I really like dry shampoo when I just need to freshen up my hair and I don’t have time, but nothing compares to actually washing your hair with real shampoo. If you need a quick refresher, then this will be a great product for you. But, realistically, dry shampoo is not a substitute for the “real thing.”

As always, I never expect you to just take my word for it. Try these Drybar products out and see for yourself. Drop me a comment below with your product reviews.
