2020 Winter Skin Essentials

These luxurious beauty finds have been my skin savior “most-year round." But when the cold weather arrives, my skin can get dry and itchy as hell. I’ve had sensitive skin since I was a kid. And although it’s gotten better, Winter tends to get the best of my skin. So here are my drugstore remedies to get you ready for the cold weather and the havoc it can cause your skin.

Some of the best brands I’ve discovered for dry sensitive skin are Aveeno, Cetaphil, and CeraVe. These are also skincare brands that I’ve been using since I was a kid, in case any readers are wondering if this is a paid or sponsored post… It’s not.

I’d also like to point out that I’m not a dermatologist or a skincare expert. Any diagnoses of my skin concerns discussed in this post have been provided by my own primary doctor or dermatologist. You should discuss skin concerns with your primary doctor or have them refer you to a dermatologist, in order to diagnose any potential case of eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis.

Moisturizing Body Creams

I’m a strong believer in the theory that skin best absorbs the moisture and other added benefits of your skincare products at night. So I always take extra good care of my skin at night, and spend a little time replenishing in the morning.

AM Routine (aka Maintenance)

CeraVe has become a popular skincare brand along with the hype of “ceramides,” which are basically a family of waxy lipid molecules within your skin. Apparently, a lack of ceramides is what causes dry skin, according to CeraVe. The CeraVe cleanser is great for cleaning your dry skin because it’s very gentle compared to other harsh cleansers and exfoliants. I normally don’t go for two-in-one type products, but I do approve of CeraVe’s Moisturizing Cream for your body and face. This moisturizer is light enough to use on your face, but heavy enough to moisturize the skin on the rest of your body. My qualm with “all over body creams” is that it can’t be totally effective because the skin on different parts of your body vary in thickness, which means different parts of the body require specific levels of moisture. For example, a body cream is usually to thick and heavy to moisturize your face with; and vice versa.

PM Rituals (aka Treatments)

When it comes to getting in some serious moisture, I always use a balm because it’s thicker and more soothing than a regular moisturizing lotion or cream. The Aveeno Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm is great for soaking in moisture, but I can feel sticky or messy. I recommend massaging the balm all over your body and then moseying around your apartment naked for about 30 minutes. When it’s time to get into your jammies, just throw on something that you don’t mind getting ruined. Then, make that your designated “Aveeno Balm Jammies” because I’ve found that daily use of the balm really gets soaked into your pajamas and it won’t matter how often you wash them. The Deep Sleep Body Cocoon is a great night time ritual for anyone who has a hard time falling asleep because it has a strong lavender scent. Despite having the texture of a lotion, this moisturizing does the job a a balm.

Luxurious Body Oils

When my skin is too dry for a cream or lotion to handle, but not dry enough to justify a heavy duty balm, body oils are my go to. Jaboneria Maranella Rosewood & Listea Cubeba Body Oil is super rich and moisturizing, but the fragrance can be very overwhelming at times.

Oui the People FeatherWeight Body Gloss has squalane, organic sunflower seed oil, organic rosehip fruit oil, organic pomegranate seed oil, and avocado oil. So in a nutshell, this OTP body oil is just a moisturizing cocktail of natural ingredients to nourish your skin.

Rich Hand Creams

O’ Keefe’s Working Hands is just a classic and so is Eucerin! Both of these brands are sold on Amazon and can be found right in your local drugstore. Plus, Duane Reade and other pharmacies typically care holiday gift sets and duos of the O’Keefe’s hand and foot creams.

The Working Hands Night Treatment is great more treating dry cracked hands while you sleep. And from my experience, I don’t need to replenish until later in the afternoon on the following day.

Mid-Day Maintenance

Sometimes my skin requires touch ups throughout the day, especially my hands since they’re the most exposed between being outdoors without gloves or washing dishes. Here are m favorite skin goodies to carry around in my purse.
