Stay At Home Essentials

I was a journalism major in college. My dream job was to be a reporter for E-news! I studied abroad in Ireland one summer and one of the requirements was to start a blog. I blogged on and off for a few years and after I started a corporate job in state government, restarted my blog as a creative outlet.

Tell us about your blog and its rebranding. What makes it different from when you first started it?

When I first started my blog it was called A Girl and Her Shoes. I blogged about my work outfits and featured a different pair of shoes in each post. I eventually rebranded to just my name so I could blog about other things outside fashion like travel, lifestyle, and my dogs!

How and when did you start your blog or a side gig? When did it become full-time?

I was working full-time in state government doing social media or the insurance and benefits program. I needed a creative outlet and began blogging on the weekends. After a year and a half of doing both, I took my blog full-time! During this time I also started consulting with companies on their social media.

What makes you a boss?

I think what makes me a boss is a fact that I'm my own boss! I like having flexible hours and making my own schedule. I can hustle as hard as I want and take time off to travel or spend time with family!

Proudest moment in your career and/or personal life?

Attending New York Fashion Week for the first time! Going and being invited to shows and getting meeting with some of my favorite brands was such a high. Plus getting to get decked out and wear your most outrageous outfits was so fun. It's a fashion blogger's dream when a photographer asks to take your photo outside a fashion show!

What is the hardest decision you've ever had to make?

I would say quitting my full-time job. It's scaring jumping into the unknown and losing a steady paycheck and benefits. The first month after quitting my job I freaked out because it seemed like the offers dried up. After a while, it got better!

What has been your lowest point in blogging?

About a year ago, I seemed to get into a dry spell. I was so uninspired and wasn't excited about blogging. Nothing I did seemed to be working! I realized that instead of doing my own thing, I was trying to do what everybody else was doing, and because I wasn't being authentic to myself, I was making myself miserable. What works for someone else isn't going to work for you.

What's your mantra or a quote you live by?

"Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm Possible'!"

Why should everyone have a #LadyTribe to lean on?

I think it's good to have a group of girls to vent to or ask for advice from. We also compare offers we get from brands to make sure they're being fair and paying accordingly and also show up for each other. I know if I ever need anything, they're just a text or phone call away!

Tell us about how you collaborate with other bloggers.

I work with my friend Polly of Flikiss on Tall and Petite style, where we get the same piece and show how it works on different heights. I'm also collaborating with a group of girls in a travel group that I can't wait for!

What passion project are you working on right now?

I'm currently working on a tall girl denim guide right now. I'm trying on denim from any brand I can think of doing a full guide on the fit and how it works for taller gals. What's your next big move? I'm currently a part of a travel group called Babes That Wander. We noticed that the travel industry wasn't being diverse and we want to change that. We had some trips planned for this summer but of course, COVID put things on hold. We have some exciting things on the horizon that I can't wait for.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? Most days, my dogs are the ones getting me out of bed! At 8:30 on the dot, they're laying on me trying to get my attention.

Share one piece of advice that you find most important with all the ladies out their working hard to make their dreams come true.
