The Tea on “Anti-Pollution” Skincare

While it seems a little hard to believe that a face cream can protect your skin from pollution, it never hurts to just try a new product. Apparently, pollutants in the air can cause inflammation in the skin and potentially increase signs of aging. And according to this HuffPost article, anti-pollution skincare is meant to “counteract the particulates in the air that lead to damaged skin.” The dermatologist that was interviewed for that article previously mentioned did recommend using skincare products with Vitamin C and other antioxidants that can “help block the formation of free radicals.” Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage skin cells, potentially leading to premature aging.

Product Reviews

I always use a serum underneath my moisturizer, so I gave the Avon Anew Anti-Pollution Serum a go. Even if you don’t want to change your entire skincare routine, adding this serum is a small change to add a layer of protection to your skin, without switching your current moisturizer if you don’t want to. I liked the fragrance of the serum, but the texture was a little too liquidy. See the picture below for an idea of the texture. It’s super weird because the serum is actually black, but goes onto your skin clear. I’ve also been using the Boost Your Radiance Anti Pollution Daily Moisturizer by Julep for several months and absolutely love it. It’s very moisturizing, but not too heavy for my oily/combination skin.

Just for full transparency… I may be a cosmetic junkie, but I’m not a certified aesthetician or a medical professional. I only provide reviews of the beauty products I try out on myself, so this blog post is tailored to my skin specifically. No one knows best for your skin like your own dermatologist or primary care provider, so please give them a call before trying out these products. I’m also really curious to hear what your derm might have to say about “anti-pollution” skincare products, so feel free to drop some knowledge in the comments below.
